- Questions and Answers:
- Q: What criteria or qualification must a recipient organization meet in order to obtain computers and training from Helpanswers?
- A: You must be a fellow not-for-profit organization.
- Q: What is the cost to the recipient for obtaining the computers?
- A: The computers are donated at no or low cost. However, there are ancillary charges that relate to shipping, installing and configuring. We have built a simple, easy model for recipients to see the total cost of this technology education based on the typical shipment of 42 computers per pallet. Please contact us for a budget of activity descriptions complete with operating expenses.
- Q: What are the specifications of the computers that are provided?
- A: They vary from donor to donor but they are a minimum of 486 / 33 MHz with monitor and software to access the Internet, browser, an office suite of software (word processing and spreadsheet analysis) and protective blocking software.
- Q: What software is provided with the computers?
- A: This, too, varies from donor to donor. However, the minimum software is Internet access, browser, word processing, spreadsheet and protective blocking software.
- Q: What is the limit on the number of computers that can be obtained by one organization?
- A: There is no limit at this time.
- Q: Can a consortium of organizations get the computers to be used cooperatively?
- A: Yes. This is a good idea where several organizations are sharing space, facilities and equipment to train various groups.
- Q: Can one organization obtain the computers to distribute to multiple service sites?
- A: Yes. Many organizations have multiple space locations where they would like to share the same knowledgebase which is, of course, web centric.
- Q: Do the computers become the property of the recipient?
- A: Yes, Helpanswers Educational Foundation grants the computers to the fellow not-for-profit recipient organizations.
- Q: How long does a recipient keep the computers?
- A: Forever. The annual budget including the recurring cost of acquiring computers is based upon the obvious obsolescence and breakdown of the computer equipment. Our plan is to replace all computers with upgraded equipment annually.
- Q: If the computers do become the property of the recipient, what documentation of ownership is provided?
- A: A shipping receipt will be issued to the recipient not-for-profit organization by Helpanswers Educational Foundation and a receipt of delivery and acceptance will be issued to Helpanswers Educational Foundation by the recipient not-for-profit organization.
- Q: What are the obligations of the recipient for maintenance, repair, etc. with the computers?
- A: We have built into the budget costs for repair and maintenance from local service providers that we will source and establish rapport with. However, the responsibility for the operation and financial care of the computer equipment is the recipient not-for-profit organization.
- Q: Are printers provided or components are available?
- A: Printers are not normally provided but can be sourced and delivered if the recipient organization would like them. Of course, this would be an additional budget and care item that must be accounted for.
- Q: What are other peripherals or components are available?
- A: Any computer hardware or software is available. Given that we are sourcing 18-24 month old technology at a no or low cost, we can find any type of computer equipment that is available for donation that meets that criteria.
- Q: What facilities must be provided for housing the computers?
- A: There are no minimum requirements for housing the computers. You should safely and securely protect the equipment from vandalism or theft.
- Q: How many volunteers are required to be provided by the recipient?
- A: At least one full-time equivalent person to coach and train the minimum 42 computers delivered. The ideal volunteer to student ratio is 1 to 10. That would equate to 4 volunteers for 42 computer users at one time.
- Q: Who is responsible for the installation?
- A: We have budgeted for the Helpanswers Project Manager / Knowledge Editor to be onsite for the original installation, configuration and training session. We have also budgeted for a Helpanswers Project Manager / Knowledge Editor to return to the installation for refreshment training six months after launch.
- Q: What training is provided by Helpanswers? What are the limits for the amount of training to the recipient?
- A: Helpanswers Project Manager / Knowledge Editor will be onsite for the first week of implementation. This visit will typically include 2 to 3 days of hands-on training. This will be followed-up by another visit in six months with another 2 to 3 days of hands-on training. Of course, the online training and person-to-person answering service is 24 hours per day and 7 days per week.
- Q: What are the limits for technical support? Is it provided only initially? As an ongoing service? Annually?
- A: There are no limits for technical support. The Helpanswers knowledge base, dictionary, address book, tutorials, discussion groups, multimedia course and person-to-person answering service are available to all participants 24 hours per day, 7 days per week.
